Sumarroca Achieves “Cava de Paraje” Recognition: Three Wines from the Núria Claverol by Sumarroca Range Awarded “Qualified Estate Cava” Status

Núria Claverol Homenatge, Núria Claverol Blanc de Noirs, and Núria Claverol Allier have earned the highest distinction from the Cava Regulatory Board, solidifying the winery’s commitment to excellence and terroir-driven viticulture.

Subirats, 2 March 2026 – Bodegues Sumarroca has reached a historic milestone. Its prestigious Núria Claverol brand has been granted the Cava de Paraje Calificado (Qualified Estate Cava) distinction for three of its most emblematic labels: Núria Claverol Homenatge, Núria Claverol Blanc de Noirs, and Núria Claverol Allier.

The Paraje Calificado category is exclusively reserved for Cavas originating from specific vineyard plots with unique edaphic and climatic characteristics. These wines must be hand-harvested, undergo a minimum aging of 36 months, and demonstrate exceptional fidelity to their origin.

A Tribute to Terroir and Heritage

The Núria Claverol range was born from the Sumarroca family’s desire to pay tribute to the essence of their estates. As organic winegrowers specializing in long-aged wines sourced from estate-owned vineyards, this recognition validates their steadfast commitment to land preservation and socio-economic sustainability.

The three awarded references represent the ultimate expression of the estate:

  • Núria Claverol Homenatge: A personal tribute to the founder’s wife. It originates from the Finca Peretes, a plot within the Santa Creu de Creixà site, where air currents from the Bosc de l’Àliga protect the vines. Crafted exclusively from the Xarel·lo variety on calcareous soils rich in marine fossils, it undergoes lees aging (en rima) for over 90 months.
  • Núria Claverol Blanc de Noirs: Sourced from the Finca Rosendo plot, the highest point of the estate, sheltered to the east by the Bosc de l’Àliga and to the west and north by the Serra de la Vermella. This microclimate allows for the slow, steady ripening of the Pinot Noir. Grown in deep soils with rounded gravels, it is aged on the lees for over 60 months.
  • Núria Claverol Allier: From the Finca Cols, a Chardonnay plot located on a fluvial terrace influenced by dry inland winds and Mediterranean sea breezes. The deep soils encourage vertical root penetration and optimal aeration. Aged for over 70 months and fermented in Allier oak, this wine expresses the essence of a limestone terroir where geology and climate define its unique character.
